At the end of the 1980s, Mekong Delta were without guitarist Frank Fricke (who accepted an offer from U.D.O.) and singer Wolfgang Borgmann (who could no longer do anything with the new material). Both had helped shape the band's identity on their first three albums, but with American singer Doug Lee and Uwe Baltrusch as the remaining guitarist, founding members Ralf Hubert and Jörg Michael managed to create an album that many fans consider to be their magnum opus. Based on its eight-part, 20-minute title track alone, "Dances Of Death (And Other Walking Shadows)" - originally released in 1990 - can even be counted among the best progressive metal albums of all time.
