Rat Race” is Highway Chile’s first new studio in 17 years!

All songs written and composed by Ben Blaauw, except for “Rock ’n Roll Fantasy” lyrics by Stan Verbraak. All Songs arranged by Highway Chile.

Strongly anchored in the early eighties, and always exploring the crossroads between the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Adult Oriented Rock, Rotterdam (NL) based Highway Chile are announc-ing the birth of a brand new Album, entitled “Rat Race”.

When given the opportunity to start writing material for a new album, main composer Ben Blaauw was inspired by challenges arising from the inevitable process of growing older, while keeping a young Rock ‘n Roll heart. Maturity of age comes with a broader and sometimes more worrysome look at social, demographic, political, and – most of all – personal issues. How to deal with those if you’re a rock musician? Well… recording and putting things down on vinyl and polycarbonate resin, with a pinch of humor, certainly helps.

The band embraced Ben’s inspiration and worked hard as a collective to rehearse, re-arrange and record the original ideas into 8 brand new songs, to be issued on the new album, plus a handful of songs that “did not make the cut”. Still, a few of those are on the live set list during extended shows.

Highway Chile are: founding member Martin Mens on guitars, original member Ben Blaauw on gui-tars, former Helloïse vocalist Stan Verbraak, former Helloïse bass player Marchell Remeeus, and all-time fan Jaimy Quite on drums.

In many ways, today’s line-up sounds familiar to Highway Chile and Helloïse fans through the years. Jaimy adds to that a dynamic and versatile drums performance, making the band sound attractive to multi-generations.
