In 1975, Neil Young released Tonight’s The Night, an album that is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces in his catalog. The album was recorded in 1973, following the major success of his album Harvest, but it was not released for two more years.
Tonight’s The Night 50th Anniversary Deluxe limited edition will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally with a newly expanded tracklisting that includes 6 bonus tracks along with an unreleased original version of Lookout Joe recorded during the original 1973 album sessions at S.I.R. in Los Angeles. It replaces the original released album version that was recorded at Young’s Broken Arrow Studio and subsequently included in
Tonight’s the Night original release.
Among the bonus tracks there is Walk On, also recorded in the 1973 S.I.R. sessions, and Tonight’s The Night(Take 3) which have both never been released. Everybody’s Alone, Raised on Robbery (featuring Joni Mitchell), and Speakin’ Out Jam appeared in NEIL YOUNG ARCHIVES VOL II, while the unreleased TTN version of Wonderin’ from the same sessions has only ever been available to stream on NYA. This is the first time all six bonus tracks from the original sessions have been available on vinyl, making this the most cohesive and true version of Tonight’s The Night.

Fifty years after the original performance, NEIL YOUNG announces Young Shakespeare, an as-yet unreleased 1971 live recording and concert film which contains the earliest known live performance footage of Young known to exist. The 1971 Stratford, CT show captures the artists stripped down to the bare essentials—acoustic guitar, piano, and harmonica.
Young Shakespeare features early recordings of “Old Man,” “The Needle and the Damage Done,” “A Man Needs a Maid,” and “Heart Of Gold” which were then over a year away from being released on Young’s classic 1972 record Harvest.
In July of 2023, Neil Young released the 'Official Release Series Volume 5', a stunning collection comprised of four classic albums that begins with the exciting renaissance that came with the release of 'Freedom' in 1989, and continues on the unequaled exploration of collections 'Ragged Glory' (1990), 'Weld' (1991) and 'Arc' (1991). In many ways, it is a musical travelogue of how Young saw the future and opened up creative worlds for the use of sound and originality which had not been used before. The bonus single contains two non-album tracks, “Rainbow Of Colors,” (live) recorded live by Neil Young solo and was the first-ever public performance of this powerful new fan favorite, and “Truth Kills,” a studio track by Young with Crazy Horse.
This new collection of Neil Young with Crazy Horses' earliest recordings include several original versions that have not been released before, and along with the 7-inch Mono mix that was released in 1970 that includes a guitar outro not on LP version not on original LP version. All the songs on EARLY DAZE sound and feel like a new beginning for where rock & roll was going at the end of the 1960s. The tide was turning on some of the psychedelic experimentation of the San Francisco bands, and moving towards a style of intricate songwriting and bands that were able to take the beginnings of folk-rock and find new ways to let it explode in different settings. Neil Young with Crazy Horse were leading the charge in this completely expressive style of new music. It opened doors for a wide variety of new styles, and allowed a whole generation of musicians to find a new way forward. In many ways, that achievement is still growing.
